Liverpool are ready to fork out €45 million for the services of 25-year-old Atalanta defensive midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.
According to a report by Tutto Atalanta, Liverpool are keen on bolstering their midfield further and have their eyes set on Teun Koopmeiners. The 25-year-old Atalanta midfielder has been doing wonders of late and the Reds feel he is a perfect fit for their system.
Koopmeiners was a part of AZ Alkmaar since his childhood days. He came up the ranks at the club and made it to their first team in the summer of 2017. The Dutch international had a four-year stint with the first team of his childhood club before securing a move to Atalanta in the summer of 2021.
Since making the move to Italy, he has gone from strength to strength. While the 25-year-old prefers playing as a defensive midfielder, he is well capable of featuring as a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder as well as a right winger. He has done well in all of those roles and has 33 goal contributions in his 104 outings for the Italian club.
In the ongoing season, he has featured in a total of 26 matches and has contributed towards 11 goals. His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed and Liverpool are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks.
The Reds so far have done a great job this season and a lot of credit has to go to the midfield overhaul that they carried out in the summer. The new arrivals have brought them back in the hunt for the Premier League title. But, Jurgen Klopp still feels the need for a few more additions to make them an even better outfit.
He wants a new defensive midfielder, someone who has years ahead of him and can fit into their system that emphasises a lot of physical as well as technical strength. As a result, they are going after the signatures of the 25-year-old who still has over three years left on his deal.
The Merseyside club are ready to make an investment worth €45 million to secure the services of Koopmeiners. While they would love to see it happen in the ongoing window, the Italian club are in no mood to sanction his exit mid-season.
