Liverpool have been linked with the move for the Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier.
The 21-year-old has been quite impressive for the German club this season, scoring six goals and picking up four assists in the Bundesliga. However, Dean Jones has revealed on Give Me Sport that Liverpool are unlikely to make a move for him in January.
“I wouldn’t see the need for Liverpool to be doing that right now, so it would surprise me. I think of all the positions right now, Liverpool seem pretty set in attack. I think that when you talk to people about what they expect from Darwin Núñez over the next year, they don’t just expect him to become a 30 goals season man. With that combined with the players around him that they’ve got in there, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota and all the other guys. Obviously, we don’t know what’s going to happen with Mohamed Salah, so there’s that element to it, but I certainly don’t expect Liverpool to sign a striker in January.”
While there is no doubt that they need to add more goals to the side, Liverpool will prioritise the signing of a defensive midfielder and a central defender next month. The likes of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have not been able to score goals consistently this season and Liverpool could certainly use a prolific striker.
It will be interesting to see if they decide to make a move for the German attacker at the end of the season.
Max Beier is highly rated in the Bundesliga and he has a big future ahead of him. He could develop into a quality goalscorer with the right coaching and guidance. He could help Liverpool improve in front of goal and he would be a long-term asset for them. The player is likely to be attracted to the idea of playing for the Premier League giants as well. He would get to work with a world manager like Jurgen Klopp club.
Meanwhile, it is no surprise that Liverpool want to sign a defensive midfielder and a central defender next month. They have had to use makeshift players in the defensive midfield role and signing a specialist replacement for Fabinho should be a top priority. A quality defensive midfielder not only helps them improve at the back, but he would also allow creative players to operate with more freedom.
Meanwhile, Joel Matip is sidelined for the remainder of the season with ligament damage and Liverpool must look to replace him adequately. The experienced defender will be a free agent in the summer and they need to start planning for a future without him as well.
