Juventus could have advantage over Tottenham in Kalvin Phillips chase

Liverpool express interest in Kalvin Phillips.

Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a move away from Manchester United in recent months, with Juventus and Tottenham.

Kalvin Phillips has struggled since the £45 million move to Manchester City, and he needs to move on in search of regular playing time. A report by Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on the Englishman. But Serie A outfit Juventus could have an advantage over them in the race.

Phillips proved to be a reliable performer in the Premier League during his time at Leeds United, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for both clubs. The England international will be hoping to get his career back on track with regular football once again, and it remains to be seen whether Manchester City are prepared to let him leave during the January transfer window.

Juventus need to sign a midfielder, especially with Paul Pogba facing a lengthy ban for doping. Phillips could prove to be a quality acquisition, and he might be available for a reasonable price as well. He has not been able to live up to the expectations at Manchester City, and the defending champions might cut their losses on him and let him leave for a nominal price.

Similarly, Tottenham Hotspur need to add depth to their midfield as well. Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from the club, and the North London outfit will have to replace him adequately. Someone like Phillips would be a quality acquisition. He is well-settled in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has managed to get the best out of his players this season, and erstwhile underperformers like Yves Bissouma have shined under the Australian this season. There is no reason why Phillips cannot get back to his best as well.

Spurs could certainly use another quality defensive midfielder to alternate with Bissouma and the England international would be the ideal fit for them. He has played in a free-flowing attacking system under Marcelo Bielsa in the past and should be able to adapt to the Tottenham style of play as well.

The North London outfit are currently unbeaten in the Premier League and a quality signing like him in January could help them finish the season strongly. But with Manchester City preferring to sell him to a foreign club, Juventus will have an advantage in the chase.
