Manchester United’s 22-year-old right-winger Mason Greenwood is ready to make a permanent switch to Getafe.
According to a report by The Sun, Mason Greenwood is loving life at Getafe and is ready to join them on a permanent basis. The 22-year-old Manchester United forward has somewhat revived his career since joining the Spanish club and he would love to continue there for years to come.
Greenwood joined the Manchester United youth academy back in 2007. He came through the ranks at the club at some pace and made it to their first team back in the summer of 2019. He went from strength to strength after joining the senior team and was considered amongst the best young talents in world football.
But, things came crashing down after he was arrested in January last year following charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control. Post the allegations, he was removed from the United first team.
But, prior to that, he had already featured in 129 matches and had contributed towards 47 goals. The 23-year-old was putting in impressive performances week in-week out.
The investigations went on for over a year before all charges were dropped earlier this year by the Crown Prosecution Service. While he was free to join the United first team in the second half of the last season, the Red Devils decided to keep him out of the squad as they wanted time to make a decision regarding his future.
After investigating the matter, the Manchester-based club were looking to reinstate him in the first team. But, they decided against it because of the kind of backlash they faced from the fans. They ended up sending him out on loan at Getafe before the start of the 2023-24 season.
The England international feared that his football career was over but he has got a second chance in Spain. The people at the club and their fans have given him a good reception. He has started to showcase his magic on the pitch.
The United graduate has featured in five matches so far. The 22-year-old has been on the pitch for 230 minutes and he already has two goal contributions to his name. Greenwood is happy at the Madrid-based club and he is ready to stay there beyond this loan move.
Manchester United are unlikely to reinstate him in their first team and they will look to sell him next summer. And, Greenwood would be more than happy to continue at Getafe for years to come.
