Manchester United were reportedly offered the opportunity to sign Joao Felix during the summer transfer window.
A report from AS via SportWitness claims that the Premier League giants were offered the opportunity to sign the Portuguese international but they decided against signing him because of his poor performances at Chelsea.
Felix ended up joining Spanish giants Barcelona on loan from Atletico Madrid. The 23-year-old was on loan at Chelsea during the second half of last season but his performances were rather underwhelming.
He failed to find the back of the net on a consistent basis and it is hardly surprising that Manchester United decided against signing him.
The Atletico Madrid forward is undoubtedly a top-class talent but he has not been able to live up to the expectations since his big-money move to Spain.
Felix has done reasonably well at Barcelona so far and it remains to be seen whether he can impress at the Catalan club until the end of the season and secure a permanent exit from Atletico Madrid.
Apparently, Manchester United were contacted by the player’s agent Jorge Mendes regarding a potential summer move. The Red Devils were not the only Premier League club offered the chance to sign Felix. Manchester City were reportedly given the opportunity to sign the player as well.
It will be interesting to see if Barcelona decide to sign the player permanently at the end of the season. Atletico Madrid are reportedly hoping to recoup €80 million for him next summer.
Meanwhile, Manchester United decided to strengthen their attack by signing Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. The Denmark international has not had ample opportunities to showcase these qualities at Old Trafford so far but he will be hoping to establish himself as a key player for the Red Devils in the coming seasons.
The Portuguese international attacker is still only 23 and he has plenty of time to recapture his peak form and fulfil his tremendous potential in the coming seasons. He was regarded as a world class talent during his time at Benfica and it remains to be seen whether he can live up to that reputation in the coming seasons.
