Tottenham retain Edmond Tapsoba interest

Tottenham Hotspur were heavily linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba during the summer.

Tottenham decided to improve their defensive options in the summer, and they signed Micky van de Ven and Ashley Phillips. However, they have not given up on Edmond Tapsoba yet and retain an interest in the 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender as per Football Insider.

Tapsoba has proven himself to be a quality performer for Bayer Leverkusen and he could prove to be a superb acquisition for Tottenham as well. It is no secret that Tottenham need to add more quality and depth to their back four, and Tapsoba would be a solid long-term investment.

The 24-year-old is entering his peak years and could play his best football for Tottenham in the coming seasons. Tottenham conceded 63 goals in the league last season. So, they need to plug that weakness in their squad if they want to do well this season.

Tottenham have started the season really well and will be pushing for Champions League qualification. They will look to do well in the domestic trophies as well. Someone like Tapsoba could be a key player for them if they manage to get the deal done in January.

It will be interesting to see if Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen are ready to sanction his departure midway through the season. Tapsoba is a key player for them, and letting him leave in January would weaken the squad.

It is wise to assume that Spurs might have to pay a lucrative amount of money in order to sign him during the winter transfer window. Signing another quality central defender could sort out their defensive unit for the foreseeable future. So, Tottenham must look to get the deal done.

A club of their status should be winning trophies, and Ange Postecoglou could be the ideal manager to end their wait for silverware. However, he will need to sort out the weaknesses in his squad first. Taosoba could be the final piece of the puzzle for the Australian manager as he looks to put together a formidable squad at the North London club.
