Arsenal’s 25-year-old shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale could part ways with the club in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, Aaron Ramsdale could part ways with Arsenal in the winter transfer window. The 25-year-old England international is not willing to be second-choice at the London club and could push for a move away from the club if he is not restored to the team.
Ramsdale has been a part of the Gunners setup since 2021. The England international has been one of the mainstays of the team since making the move from Sheffield United.
Last season, the 25-year-old featured in all 38 of their Premier League games. He conceded just 43 goals and kept a clean sheet in 14 matches. Ramsdale played an integral role in helping them compete for the Premier League title and qualify for the Champions League in the process.
The England international penned down a new deal with the club back in May and his new contract runs until the summer of 2026. Despite having three years left on his deal at the club, he could end up leaving them in January.
The 25-year-old wants regular first-team football as he eyes a spot in the England team for the Euro 2024 that will be held in Germany next summer. But, at this point in time, his number-one status at Arsenal is under threat.
The Gunners had signed David Raya from Brentford in the recently concluded transfer window. While it is an initial loan deal, there is an obligation to buy depending on certain conditions. His arrival meant that Ramsdale was no longer the preferred choice in goal and he will have to compete with the 28-year-old.
Mikel Arteta was keen on having Raya in his ranks. The Spanish manager wanted to sign a goalkeeper who was good with the ball and could help him build from the back.
Despite Raya’s arrival, Ramsdale started the initial four Premier League games for the club. But, things have changed in the past week. The Spanish international has started ahead of the 25-year-old in their previous two outings.
He featured against Everton in the league and then started in their Champions League fixture as well. Raya managed to keep a clean sheet in both outings.
As things stand, he is expected to continue in goal. And, if Ramsdale doesn’t get enough first-team action until the turn of the year. He is likely to push for a move away from the club. And, there are a few top European clubs that are ready to prise him away from Arsenal.
