Former Tottenham Hotspur skipper Hugo Lloris is likely to leave the club as a free agent in the winter transfer window.

According to The Telegraph, Hugo Lloris will most likely leave Tottenham Hotspur in January as a free agent. The 36-year-old shot-stopper couldn’t secure himself a move away from the club in the summer. As a result, he will have to wait until the transfer window reopens.

Lloris has been at Spurs since the summer of 2012. He came into the limelight while playing for Olympique Lyon and after a few impressive seasons for the French club, Tottenham came calling and he ended up joining them.

During his time at the club, he has featured in a total of 444 matches and has kept a clean sheet in 152 of those encounters. The 36-year-old was the mainstay of the London club for years but of late things have been different.

Lloris’ performances have been going downhill over the past 12 months and he has struggled with injuries as well. The former French international even made quite a few errors that led to goals last season.

His performances became a concern for the team and their new manager Ange Postecoglou did want to rely on the 36-year-old and they decided to sign a new shot-stopper in the summer.

The London club managed to acquire the services of Guglielmo Vicario from FC Empoli. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has had a great start to life in London. He has featured in all five of Spurs’ Premier League games and has kept a clean sheet in two of those matches.

Vicario’s arrival meant there was no place for the French international at the club. Spurs were ready to negotiate his departure and even he was ready for a new chapter in his career. But, the World Cup winner couldn’t secure himself a move while the transfer window was still open.

While Lloris is still a part of the Tottenham team, he is unlikely to have any game time until the turn of the year. And, according to the report, he is expected to leave the club for free in the winter transfer window. Spurs might not be able to extract a transfer fee from his departure but it surely lightens their wage bill as the 36-year-old earns £100,000-a-week.
