Liverpool are reportedly trying to sign 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder Andre this summer but have failed with a €30 million bid.
According to a report from ESPN, Fluminense have now rejected the Liverpool offer for Andre. So the Reds have decided to walk away from the move to sign the 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder. And a January move will not see the light of day either.
Apparently, Liverpool offered €30 million for the highly talented defensive midfielder. Fluminense do not want to lose the player right now and they will sell him at the end of the Brazilian season. It seems unlikely that Liverpool will wait for him until then. So it will be interesting to see if they can bring in a quality defensive midfielder before the summer transfer window closes.
They tried to sign players like Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia earlier this summer. However, they were beaten to the signing of both players by Premier League rivals Chelsea. Liverpool are yet to replace the Brazilian international Fabinho, who moved to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer.
The Liverpool midfield is lacking in quality and depth. Signing a quality defensive midfielder should be their top priority before the window closes and it will be interesting to see who they end up with.
Andre has the potential to develop into a top-class player and he could have been a quality long-term investment for Liverpool. Moving to the Premier League would have been an exciting opportunity for the Brazilian as well.
Regular football in the Premier League could have helped him nail down a starting spot in the Brazilian national team. Also, working under a world-class coach like Jurgen Klopp would have helped him improve further.
The 22-year-old will certainly be gutted if Liverpool decide to walk away from him and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. Liverpool had a disappointing campaign last year and they missed out on Champions League qualification.
They will be desperate to make comments and return to the premier European competition next summer. They need top quality players in order to get back into the top four and someone like Andre could have made a big difference for them in the middle of the park.
