Serie A giants Lazio are reportedly hoping to sign Hugo Lloris from Tottenham before the summer transfer window slams shut.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Hugo Lloris could be on his way out of Tottenham Hotspur this summer. And Serie A giants Lazio are in talks with the North London club over a deal for the long-serving veteran.

Lloris is in the final year of his contract with Tottenham, and he needs to move on in search of regular first-team football. Tottenham have already signed a long-term replacement for him, and Guglielmo Vicario is likely to play every week at the North London club.

The 36-year-old has clearly regressed, and he is not good enough to start for Tottenham every week. There is no doubt that he could still be an important part of the Tottenham squad because of his experience, mentality and leadership qualities. But Spurs are ready to part ways with him.

It makes sense for the North London outfit to cash in on him while he still holds value. He will be able to leave on a free transfer next year. Spurs are unlikely to renew his contract. So it would make sense to sell the player now.

Lazio could certainly use more quality in the goalkeeping department, and Lloris would be a useful option for them. The Frenchman will look to get back to his best once again, and although he might not reclaim his peak, he could still be a quality option to have.

Getting rid of the French goalkeeper would also lighten the wage bill at Tottenham. The North London outfit have been quite active in the transfer market so far, and they are looking to put together a formidable squad capable of qualifying for the Champions League. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to bring in an understudy to Vicario after the departure of Lloris.

The long-serving veteran has been an outstanding servant for Tottenham over the years, and he has been one of the best players at the club since joining them. His departure will certainly come as a blow to the Tottenham dressing room because of his influence on and off the pitch. But the time is right for both parties to move on.
