Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham United are interested in the services of OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
According to a report by Nice-Matin via Sport Witness, Newcastle United are keen on having Jean-Clair Todibo in their ranks ahead of next season. The 23-year-old OGC Nice defender has been in some form over the past 18 months and has been on their radar for a while now.
But, they are not the only English club interested in his services. Even Aston Villa and West Ham United want to sign him. Todibo joined Barcelona back in the winter of 2019 after coming through the ranks at Toulouse. He had immense potential and was a huge prospect for the future but things didn’t really work out for him at Barcelona.
While he was a part of the Catalan giants, the 23-year-old was subject to multiple loan moves. He joined OGC Nice on a six-month-long loan back in the winter of 2021. He managed to impress during his short stint with the French club and his move was made permanent ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Todibo has since gone from strength to strength and has managed to revive his career. As far as last season is concerned, the 23-year-old centre-back was involved in a total of 46 matches and racked up over 4,000 minutes.
He was the mainstay of the French club and managed to put in some impressive performances throughout the season. His performances have resulted in a lot of interest from England and despite having four years left on his deal with Nice, the French international could be on the move in the ongoing window.
Newcastle United are one of the clubs interested in signing him. They have been following him for almost a year now and are considering pushing for his services. The Magpies are looking to bolster their squad ahead of next season as they prepare to return to European football. And, Newcastle United would love to have him in their ranks.
They approached the 23-year-old over a potential move in the ongoing window. However, the Magpies are not the only ones in the race. Even West Ham and Aston Villa have made an approach to the player.
Villa might have signed Pau Torres in the ongoing window, but they are still keen on further reinforcement in defence and would love to acquire his services. Meanwhile, the Hammers’ priority might be to sign midfielders but they are also looking to add a centre-back to the mix.
While three English clubs are pushing for his signatures, there is a real possibility that he might end up staying in France for another season. The 23-year-old is ready to continue at Nice as his focus is to make it to the French squad for the 2024 Euros.
Meanwhile, Nice are in no rush to let him leave and will only consider offers in the region of €40 to €50 million. A figure that neither of the clubs might be ready to pay for the 23-year-old at this point in time.
