West Ham United unwilling to pay £40 million to sign Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay has been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer, with West Ham United keen on signing him.

According to a report from Daily Mirror, West Ham United are keen on signing Scott McTominay, and they have already had talks with the Red Devils regarding a potential move. Apparently, Manchester United want a fee of around £40 million for the midfielder, and the Hammers are unwilling to pay up.

The Scottish international midfielder is not a regular starter at Manchester United, and West Ham will be hoping to sign him for a more reasonable price. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United are willing to lower their demands for the player.

The Red Devils will look to improve their midfield this summer, and they have already signed Mason Mount from Chelsea. They are believed to be closing in on the capture of Sofyan Amrabat as well.

McTominay is set to fall further down the pecking order and it makes sense for him to move on. So a  move to West Ham would be ideal for him, and he is likely to hold down a regular starting spot under David Moyes.

West Ham recently cashed in on star midfielder Declan Rice, and they have plenty of resources to bring in replacements this summer. McTominay could be a useful player for them. The 26-year-old is well-settled in the Premier League, and he has the attributes to thrive at a mid-table club.

West Ham will be competing in the Europa League next season, and they must look to improve their squad adequately before the summer transfer window closes. The midfield is clearly in need of strengthening, and they should look to invest in a reliable goalscorer and a central defender as well.

West Ham have been quite disappointing in the Premier League last season. But they managed to do well in Europe and win the UEFA Europa Conference league. David Moyes will be hoping that his side can compete for trophies once again.

Someone like McTominay will also fancy his chances of playing European football with West Ham if the transfer goes through. The reported £40 million asking price seems quite steep, which is why Manchester United will have to be more reasonable with their demands if they want to sell the 26-year-old.
