Manchester United considering Justin Bijlow swoop

Manchester United are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of 25-year-old Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow.

According to a report by 1908.nl, Manchester United are keen on having Justin Bijlow in their ranks ahead of next season. The 25-year-old shot-stopper has been doing wonders at Feyenoord, and his performances have attracted a lot of attention of late.

With David de Gea out of contract, the Red Devils are in desperate need to sign a new shot-stopper. Manchester United were in talks with the Spain international over a contract extension for a while now. The talks were progressing nicely, and he even penned down a new deal.

However, Manchester United withdrew the offer and did not countersign it. De Gea’s deal with the Red Devils ran until June 2023. He is now officially a free agent, and other clubs can sign him as a free agent. With the Spaniard no longer a part of Erik ten Hag’s squad, the Dutch manager is keen on signing a new world-class shot-stopper, and he has his eyes on Bijlow.

The 25-year-old has come through the ranks at the Dutch club, and he was promoted to their first team back in the summer of 2016. He slowly managed to establish himself as a regular and of late has been doing wonders in goal. And the player has kept 45 clean sheets in his career thus far with the Eredivisie champions.

In the recently-concluded season, the Dutch international featured in a total of 34 matches and kept 15 clean sheets while only conceding 33 goals in the process. Bijlow’s contract with Feyenoord runs out in the summer of 2025, and the club are keen on extending his stay.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are pushing for his signatures. They are in desperate need of a new shot-stopper and have also been linked with Inter Milan’s Andre Onana. With De Gea’s contract over, there is a possibility that Ten Hag could push for both Onana and Bijlow. The latest update comes in the wake of reports linking Tom Heaton with a summer exit.

But, if they only look to sign one of them, the Dutch international will be a much cheaper option than Onana. While there is nothing concrete about Manchester United’s interest in his services, the 25-year-old surely has the qualities to be the next Manchester United number one.
