Aston Villa are keen on having 26-year-old Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres in their ranks ahead of next season.
According to Rudy Galetti via GIVEMESPORT, Aston Villa are leading the race for the signatures of Pau Torres. The 26-year-old has been on the radar of multiple English clubs for quite a while now and we might finally see him play in the Premier League next season.
Torres has come through the ranks at Villarreal. He has managed to establish himself as one of the most important players in their first team setup. But, it seems the 26-year-old’s time at the club might end in the summer.
The Villarreal centre-back has been involved in 37 matches in the ongoing season and also has a goal to his name. He has been a rock in the heart of the defence, the Spain international has hardly put a foot wrong throughout the season.
Torres is keen on having a new challenge and Villarreal do not intend on losing out on him for free in the following summer window. The Spain international is expected to be available for £55 million, a fee very close to his release clause.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are leading the race for his signatures. Unai Emery has done wonders since taking charge of the English club. He has turned around the fortunes of the club and has secured European football for next season.
When asked about Torres to Villa, Galetti said: “We can still say that Aston Villa are leading the race for Pau Torres. This is also primarily because the former coach of Pau at Villarreal being at Aston Villa seems to put the Villans in a privileged position. The situation of competitors for Pau is still quite complicated.”
He is expected to be rewarded with a hefty chunk to further strengthen his squad. And, the Spanish boss is keen on reuniting with Torres. He has worked with the 26-year-old back when he was managing Villarreal.
Emery has played a big role in Torres becoming the player he is and their relationship is a big reason why Villa are leading the race. As a result, it will be interesting to see if Torres ends up playing his football at Villa Park next season.
