Dean Henderson is ready to quit Manchester United in the summer as he will not play second fiddle to David De Gea.

According to Football Insider, Dean Henderson will likely quit Manchester United in the summer. The on-loan goalkeeper will not play second fiddle to David de Gea when he returns to Old Trafford after the season ends. The Spaniard is reportedly in advanced talks over a new contract.

Dean Henderson stirred up a storm last summer after his temporary exit from Manchester United with comments about the club. He also claimed not to have a conversation with Erik ten Hag, as he did not want to stay put and play second choice during the season.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Henderson had claimed the No.1 spot, only to see that decision reversed the following season. The Englishman cut a frustrated figure sitting on the bench, unable to make a breakthrough ahead of the Spaniard.

While his loan spell at Nottingham Forest bore fruit earlier, the 26-year-old has suffered from fitness issues. A thigh injury suffered in mid-January has kept him out of the squad since, while new arrival Keylor Navas is taking his place between the sticks.

Nottingham Forest are open to signing Henderson permanently if they can survive relegation. Even if they can’t, the 26-year-old has plenty of interest from other Premier League sides, who were impressed by his performances in the campaign’s first half.

One way or another, Henderson will likely play for another team as the 26-year-old is ready to quit Manchester United. He does not want to play second fiddle to De Gea, considering the Spaniard is inching closer to signing a new contract at Old Trafford.

De Gea is reportedly willing to take a significant pay cut to remain at Old Trafford. His current deal expires in the summer. But ten Hag remains convinced Manchester United will be better served with the Spaniard in goal, thus explaining the advanced talks over a renewal. They are linked with moves for Illan Meslier, David Raya and Robert Sanchez. But it may appear De Gea will stay put for the foreseeable future.

With De Gea’s new deal likely letting him stay on as their undisputed No.1 choice, Henderson will decide to depart for new pastures. Where he might end up remains the question for the summer, but there will come some top suitors for his signature.
