Liverpool, Tottenham establish contact with James Maddison

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have registered their interest in signing Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

According to a report by 90min, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having James Maddison in their ranks. The 26-year-old midfielder’s future has been the taking point for a while now and he is expected to be on the move in the summer.

Spurs and Liverpool are two clubs who have informed his representatives about their interest in the Leicester City midfielder. Maddison joined Norwich back in the winter of 2016. He went from strength to strength at the club before joining the Foxes in the summer of 2018.

Maddison has since registered himself as a key member of their squad. The England international has featured in 195 matches and has over 90 goal contributions.

His form did become a concern at one stage but he is back at his best in the ongoing season. The 26-year-old has featured in 22 Premier League matches and has nine goals and six assists to his name.

The Leicester midfielder’s contract at the club runs until the summer of 2024. While the club was keen on extending it, the player has already rejected multiple offers. And, he is keen on moving on in his career.

With just over 12 months left on his contract, the club will have to look to offload him in the summer. Or they might end up losing out on him for free similar to what has taken place with Youri Tielemans. The Foxes might accept a bid of around £50 million for the England international.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are the two clubs set to battle it out for his services. They have already informed the player’s representative about the desire of signing him in the summer.

The Merseyside club will look for a midfield overhaul in the summer after a disappointing season. Jurgen Klopp wants to sign multiple midfielders ahead of next season. He believes Maddison could be a great addition to their ranks and his versatility could help their cause.

However, they will face competition from the Spurs. While the London club are on the look for their next manager, they have already identified the key areas that need strengthening ahead of next season. Tottenham believe a new midfielder will be key to their success.

And, they want to sign an attacking midfielder. However, it won’t be that easy as both the clubs are set to go all out for the 26-year-old. It will be interesting to see who ends up winning this transfer tussle.
