Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing 24-year-old Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, currently on loan at Leeds United.
According to GiveMeSport, Aston Villa are keen on having Weston McKennie in their ranks. The 24-year-old Juventus midfielder is currently on loan at Leeds United in the Premier League, who can sign him permanently for £30 million. And, with his future uncertain, a lot of clubs are keeping an eye on his situation.
McKennie came into the limelight after his heroics with FC Schalke 04. His performances attracted the attention of the Italian giants Juventus, who initially signed him on a season-long loan and then decided to make it permanent.
But, things did not go according to plan for the American international at Juventus. He did make impact every now and then but was never really consistent enough. Eventually, the 24-year-old was loaned out to Premier League side Leeds United.
McKennie joined Leeds on a six-month-long loan with a buy-option of £30 million. The USMNT international joined the English top-flight club to help them survive relegation. He was brought in to help Jesse Marsch turn around the season. But the American manager was soon sacked and replaced by Javi Gracia.
Leeds do have the option to make his loan move permanent. But their survival in the Premier League is a must for that. And, even the 24-year-old is uncertain about staying in Yorkshire as he is yet to adapt to life in the city.
McKennie said, “I’m a Texas boy who has been living in Italy for a while with good weather, but here I’m begging to see sunlight for just 10 minutes per day.”
In his eight Premier League outings, they won just two fixtures and sit only two points above the relegation zone. Leeds’s survival in the English top flight is not certain yet. And, his loan deal is set to expire in a few months’ time. But, the player is not keen on returning to Juventus.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are one of the clubs interested in his services. Unai Emery has done a great job at the club since arriving in November. And, he is keen on making a few signings in the summer to take the next step in the upcoming season.
Emery wants to have the 24-year-old midfielder in his ranks. The Spanish manager believes his arrival will add a lot more composure in the centre of the park and bolster his squad as a whole. However, there are other big clubs from Europe who are keen on having McKennie in their ranks. As a result, it will be interesting to see if Aston Villa can manage to land him at Villa Park.
