Tottenham Hotspur reportedly are interested in signing 26-year-old Villarreal defender Pau Torres ahead of next season.
According to Football Transfers, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having the services of Pau Torres. Spurs have already enquired about the 26-year-old Villarreal defender as they look to put an end to their defensive struggles.
Steve Kay said, “Tottenham have been looking for a young, versatile defender for quite a while now, and they have recently inquired about Aymeric Laporte and Pau Torres.”
Torres has been a part of Villarreal since his childhood days. The 26-year-old has gone up the ranks at the club and has become an integral part of their first team over the years. Since being promoted to their first team he has featured in a total of 162 matches and has 16 goal contributions to his name. And his market value currently stands at €45 million.
The Spain international has been one of their most important players of late. And, despite a lot of attention from clubs across Europe in the past few transfer windows, the Spanish club have managed to keep hold of their star player.
Torres has featured in 28 matches in the ongoing season. And, once again he has managed to perform on a consistent basis. The 26-year-old Spanish international has a contract at the club that ends in the summer of 2024.
While Villarreal are keen on extending his stay at the club, the player is not keen on penning a new deal. He is looking for a bigger challenge elsewhere. With just around 15 months left on his contract, the Spanish club might be forced to sell him in the summer or risk losing out on him for free. And it will not be surprising to see if Villarreal demand around €45 million for him.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have emerged as a major candidate to secure the services of the 26-year-old. Tottenham have not had the best of seasons so far. They are all set for another trophyless season, and Antonio Conte is likely to be sacked in the coming days.
Despite their ongoing managerial crisis, Tottenham have already started to plan for next season. They are keen on adding a few defenders to their ranks. Spurs want to sign players who can replace Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.

Dier is a midfielder who has been playing in a centre-back role for Spurs. Meanwhile, Sanchez is someone who has not reached the heights that were expected of him. As a result, their interest in the Villarreal centre-back is quite understandable. However, it won’t be that easy a task to land Torres given the amount of interest from elsewhere.
