Arsenal are reportedly competing with many other teams for Mahmoud Dahoud, who will leave Borussia Dortmund as a free agent.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal are among those chasing Mahmoud Dahoud. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder will become a free agent when his contract expires in the summer. Several clubs are keen on the 27-year-old German international, with the Gunners keeping watch.

Arsenal have a tricky few weeks ahead of them as Mikel Arteta fears up for the title run-in. With twelve games remaining in the Premier League season, the Gunners sit at the top, leading Manchester City by five points. While all focus will be on the domestic crown, the club are already planning their moves for next summer.

One of the problems Arsenal had before January was shoring up their midfield. Albert Sambi Lokonga was not performing at the required levels, while Mohamed Elneny’s season ended prematurely due to injury. There were also concerns about Thomas Partey keeping his levels for the whole season, pointing to the need for reinforcements in the middle.

Arsenal sent Lokonga out on loan and signed Jorginho from Chelsea on deadline day in January. The idea has worked well for the Gunners. But the links to Mahmoud Dahoud suggest Arteta might look to further reinforce the area. The club may sell Lokonga next summer, while it could also be Elneny’s last season here.

They want to sign a high-profile midfielder like Declan Rice, a player Arsenal are currently favourites in the summer. But it is clear that Arteta wants to solidify his midfield options. Whether that would include the  Dahoud remains the question.

Additionally, Arsenal retain an interest in Moises Caicedo despite failing with two huge bids in January. Even with the two-star midfielders, Arteta might see Dahoud as a good squad option. But that would mean retaining his current position at Dortmund.

Dahoud has not played regularly this season, with injury hampering his progress. Despite starting the first three games of the campaign, a shoulder problem kept him out for a considerable period. While he is not about to stay beyond the current term, Dortmund are not playing him regularly. But those two things may not be connected.

Apart from Arsenal, Dahoud has plenty of interest from Atletico Madrid, Real Betis and Sevilla in Spain. Other clubs like Leicester City, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, AC Milan, and Roma are all reportedly keen on the 27-year-old German international. These are also clubs where he could hope to get regular playing time and a starting berth.

As for the interest from Arsenal, Dahoud might be considered, albeit not as a priority. Arteta would like to add him as an experienced option, but he will likely go somewhere where he could play regularly rather than be a bench option.
