Liverpool are interested in signing 19-year-old Portuguese centre-back Antonio Silva from Benfica in the summer.
According to a report by Football Transfers, Liverpool are keen on bringing 19-year-old centre-back Antonio Silva to Anfield in the summer. Jurgen Klopp will look to add reinforcements to his squad which has struggled in the ongoing season. He has identified the Benfica defender as one of his targets for the transfer window ahead of the next season.
The Merseyside club are having a season to forget in the Premier League. They are currently 10th in the league with 29 points out of 20 matches. Things haven’t worked out for Klopp this season but he will be eager to turn things around. Liverpool can still bounce back but a spot in the next season’s Champions League still seems to be beyond their reach.
Silva has been a part of Benfica since his early days. He has come up through the ranks at the club and has established himself as a regular. The teenager has already made his international debut for Portugal. He has featured in 27 matches for the senior Benfica team.
In the ongoing season, he has played 29 matches in all competitions. He has been a key figure in the Portuguese side’s backline and has put in some exceptional performances. His performances throughout the ongoing season have attracted a lot of interest and Liverpool are eager to sign him.
Klopp will enter the next summer market with a lot of work to be done. He will be looking to offload a few players while signing a few new ones. While his priority will be the midfield, he will also have to make signings in defence to improve the overall quality of his squad. Antonio Silva is one of the defenders that Liverpool have kept an eye on for a while.
And, as per reports, they will push for his signatures in the summer. Silva is a huge prospect for the future and acquiring his services will help the Merseyside club in the long run. The 19-year-old’s contract at Benfica will end in the summer of 2027 which means Jurgen Klopp’s men will have to pay a sizeable amount for his services. It will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club manages to sign him or not.
