Everton are reportedly keen to complete the signing of Marseille striker Bamba Dieng.
According to Foot Mercato, Premier League side Everton are ready to land Marseille star Bamba Dieng in the ongoing 2023 January transfer window.
The Toffees are struggling to stay afloat in the Premier League relegation battle, and a drop to the second division is a distinct possibility. The lack of a vision on and off the ground has caught up with them as Frank Lampard became the latest domino to fall at Goodison Park.
With the Chelsea legend no more in charge, the Toffees are in the hunt for not just new players but also a new manager. There are just days left to go before the January transfer window slams shut, and bringing in an attacker should be the top priority.
Everton have the second-worst attack in the league and have failed to replace Richarlison, who moved to Tottenham Hotspur last summer. Anthony Gordon appears to be a shadow of the player he was last season and is privy to the lack of imagination and initiative upfront.
They have now made a late push to land Dieng, who appeared to be on his way to Lorient. The 22-year-old can play anywhere along the frontline and knows where the back of the net is. While he is far from a prolific goalscorer, Everton cannot appear to be picky at this moment in time and do the best they have in the time left.
The Senegalese striker is keen to move to the Premier League, and this could swing things in Everton’s favour. Having already lost out on Arnaut Danjuma in the 11th hour to Tottenham, they will be keen to do some hijacking of their own in regards to Dieng.
With just two goals and one assist in 12 games this season, Dieng is far from a reliable goalscorer. However, a move to Goodison Park allows him to rebuild his career. The Red half of Merseyside already have a Senegalese legend in Sadio Mane. What the blue half wouldn’t do for Dieng to be their own.
