Newcastle United are preparing a lucrative offer to entice Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to the Premier League in January.
As per Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle United are set to launch a swoop to rope in Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in this winter transfer window. The Serbian midfielder has garnered severe interest among Europe’s top clubs.
Milinkovic-Savic has had some major linkups in the last few seasons but Lazio have managed to keep a hold of him. But this time it is becoming increasingly difficult for him to remain at the club beyond this season.
He is pushing for a move outside the club as he is finally ready to take the next step in his career. Fresh terms have already been proposed but the 27-year-old is determined to look for fresh opportunities.
His current contract runs down till 2024 and the club is aware of the fact they could be forced to sell the player next summer if they fail to agree to a new contract.
Newcastle could fulfil Lazio’s desire as the Magpies are ready to offer a whopping €60 million for the midfielder. They don’t seem to be too interested to wait till the summer and are willing to pay a premium in a bid to land the player at St James’ Park.
Personal terms won’t be an issue as the player will be served with a wage of €10 million per season alongside a signing bonus of €12 million. Arsenal have been courting his signature for a long time as Mikel Arteta wants to upgrade his existing midfield ranks.
Thomas Partey’s injury issues have been quite persistent while Albert Sambi Lokonga hasn’t really proved his worth so far. A loan deal is mooted with an obligation to buy the player in the summer.
But Newcastle’s sudden burst could force the Gunners’ hand as they won’t be able to match their offer. Milinkovic-Savic has been involved in 10 goals in Serie A this season as there hasn’t been a drop in his intensity and Newcastle would get an ideal partner of Bruno Guimaraes to complement the Brazilian in the middle of the park.
