Premier League sides Everton and West Ham United are keeping tabs on Aston Villa ace Danny Ings
According to The Daily Mail, Everton and West Ham United are interested in securing the services of Aston Villa forward Danny Ings in the 2023 January transfer window.
The 30-year-old is a well-travelled striker with much experience in the English top flight. Injuries largely limited his impact at Liverpool, but he went on to rebuild his career at Southampton.
This earned him a move to Aston Villa in the summer of 2021, but he has struggled to take the next step in his career at Villa Park. More than a year on, the midlands side are ready to let the Englishman move on, and there is no shortage of interest.
Everton and West Ham United are both keen on securing Ings as they look to navigate their way out of the relegation dogfight. A major reason for their struggles has been the lack of goals. The Toffees have found the back of the net, just 14 times in the Premier League while the Hammers have done so 15 times.
To put it into context, only Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers have scored fewer goals in the league this season. Ings is a proven goalscorer and will add a new dimension to the attack.
Everton were keen on wrapping up a deal for the player in early January but have hit a roadblock. While Villa are not averse to a sale, they are insisting on a permanent deal over a loan. Unless Everton ship out a few of their players first, Frank Lampard might have to forget about landing Ings.
Curiously, the Villa man has found the back of the net more times against Everton than any other club. He is far from a regular at Villa Park, and a move elsewhere could help get his career back on track. At 30, he still has several years left in him.
West Ham are in an albeit better situation than Everton and could offer the English striker a better chance at success. David Moyes has shown in the past like with Jesse Lingard that he has what it takes to help players resurrect flagging careers. Ings could certainly do with that magic touch.
Gianluca Scamacca has failed to meet the required expectations at the London Stadium, and Michail Antonio is not getting any younger. At least for the next couple of years, Ings could prove to be a valuable addition to the Hammers roster.
A move to Everton could also jeopardize Ings’s relationship with Liverpool fans. With Southampton also in the fray, the 30-year-old can certainly choose his pick.
