Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to improve their defensive options by Spanish full-back Pedro Porro.
According to a report by A Bola, as relayed by Sport Witness, Tottenham have contacted Sporting CP through intermediaries in order to find out how much Spanish defender Pedro Porro would cost during the winter transfer window.
Apparently, Sporting are prepared to sell Pedro Porro for a fee of around €30 million. However, they will not sanction his departure midway through the season. So Tottenham will have to wait until the summer transfer window to sign the 23-year-old right back.
It is no secret that Spurs will have to sign a quality right-back in the coming months. The likes of Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal have been largely underwhelming, and Conte needs to bring in an upgrade. Pedro Porro has thus emerged as a top target for Tottenham.
Porro is rated highly around Europe and has been impressive for Sporting this season. The Spaniard has nine assists across all competitions, and he is a lot more effective in the final third compared to the current options at Antonio Conte’s disposal. Plus, the reported €30 million asking price seems quite reasonable, and it will be interesting to see if Spurs are willing to pay up for him.
The north Londoners have improved considerably since the arrival of Antonio Conte. But they are still a few signings away from challenging clubs like Manchester City for the title. Bringing in a quality right-back should be a top priority for Tottenham, and they should look to bring in a quality centre-back and a creative midfielder as well.
Antonio Conte is nearing the end of his contract at Tottenham, who are hoping to tie him down to a new long-term deal. They will have to match up to his ambitions to convince him to stay. And it remains to be seen, whether Daniel Levy is willing to deliver the players Conte wants to sign.
Conte wants to win major trophies at Tottenham, and he will not be able to achieve his goals without strengthening the squad considerably. And contact Sporting CP for Porro is a solid first step to convincing the Italian tactician.
The Spanish full-back would be a solid, long-term investment and he would improve a key area in the squad. Conte’s system is hugely dependent on attacking full-backs and the arrival of the Spaniard could transform the London club.
