Fabrizio Romano rules out Arsenal, Tottenham move for Nicolo Zaniolo

Nicolo Zaniolo will not be arriving in the Premier League as the AS Roma midfielder has been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano insisted there is no basis for Nicolo Zaniolo emerging as a point of interest for both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Arsenal have been credited with an interest in the attacking midfielder as Mikel Arteta is willing to add more cover to his already coveted midfield department.

Martin Odegaard has exceeded expectations this season but with the fixtures piling up ahead the Gunners manager will be needing adequate covers and Zaniolo remains an elusive target for him.

The 23-year-old has developed into one of the most ferocious attacking midfielders and has had a commanding presence under the guidance of Jose Mourinho in Rome.

He has long been attached to the Roma setup and is willing to extend his association with the club but his wage demands are yet to be approved by the club hierarchy and the Gunners could swoop in under their nose.

His agent Claudio Vigorelli revealed the player wants to stay at Roma and fresh terms are being discussed.

“There are no clouds on the horizon, we have an excellent rapport with Roma and Tiago Pinto and we’ve agreed that we’ll discuss a contract extension in the future when the club think it’s best.

“Now, the most important thing is to focus on work and performance on the pitch. The club know that we are ready to sit down and negotiate. I repeat that the rapport with Pinto is excellent and Zaniolo is happy in Rome and with fans.”

Spurs are also in need of proper reinforcements as Antonio Conte has suffered innumerable difficulties in the first half of the season and he will be sanctioned a transfer kitty in the winter to undergo a January overhaul.

But Zaniolo is unlikely to leave Italy and Fabrizio Romano has echoed the same.

“I’m aware there’s been some speculation about Nicolo Zaniolo again, and it’s a slightly surprising story as there are no negotiations between Arsenal and Zaniolo as of now.

“He has never been close to a Premier League move. Tottenham links were there in the past because of Fabio Paratici who’s always been following Zaniolo since the beginning of his career, but nothing more concrete than that.”
