Manchester United have announced Cristiano Ronaldo will leave the club with immediate effect as the club decided to mutually terminate his contract.

Manchester United will be parting ways with Cristiano Ronaldo as the Red Devils shut shop on his second stint in the Premier League. The player will now be a free agent and will be able to sign for a club of his choice.

United were supposed to deal with the matter pretty quietly and pretty sensitively and they have done just that. There has not been any attempt from the management to sensationalise the matter and Ronaldo’s departure would be a win-win situation for the club as it would allow Erik ten Hag to concentrate more on the remainder of the season.

Off-pitch distractions have been an issue since Ronaldo left the stadium in the midst of the Tottenham Hotspur game and things started to unravel from that point.

His explosive interview with Piers Morgan was the final nail in the coffin but this wasn’t supposed to end like this. Manchester United issued an official statement.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”

United are now expected to look out for a replacement for the 37-year-old and another forward could enter Old Trafford in January. The Portuguese international will be participating in the World Cup and his target will be to win his third trophy for his country.

The former Real Madrid forward also released an official statement to clarify his position once again.

The statement read: “I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.

“I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”
