Aston Villa are considering a move for AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham, who has previously had a successful stint at Villa Park.

As per reports via Sport Witness, Aston Villa could renew their interest in Tammy Abraham who is having second thoughts about his AS Roma future. The England international has not been that prolific this campaign and has looked like a pale shadow of himself.

Unai Emery will be given a sufficient budget to bolster his ranks in January at Villa and the Spaniard has prioritised reshaping his attacking department. Except for Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins, the Midlands giants do not have adequate cover and thus a move for Tammy makes sense.

Tammy Abraham netted 27 goals in all competitions last season as he led the side to the UEFA Europa Conference League title. But this season, it has not been easy as he has struggled to replicate those performances.

He has also been the subject of criticism from his manager Jose Mourinho. And in this World Cup break, the English striker could take a stock of the current situation to assess his next move.

A move in January would be audacious given the length of his current contract. But Aston Villa could take their chances. They could appeal for a loan with an option to buy him in the summer.

Villa are not his only suitor as Tottenham Hotspur are also planning to line up a move for Abraham. Antonio Conte wants some upgrade over his current options and could visit Italy to rope in the AS Roma forward.

Abraham has the similar kind of aspects Conte prefers, and he is tailor-made for his system. However, things could go south as Roma are still fighting for a top-four place in the Serie A and would not be ready to part ways with one of their potent weapons.

The 25-year-old helped Aston Villa regain promotion to the Premier League during the 2018/19 season and would be familiar with the atmosphere should he arrive at the club. But the lure of Champions League football would be hard to reject, and Tottenham stand a better chance of landing the player.
