Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Yannick Carrasco, who could be made available for a transfer by Atletico Madrid.

According to Fichajes, Yannick Carrasco features on Newcastle United’s shortlist of targets in January. The versatile Belgian international could be allowed to depart by Atletico Madrid to help ease through a challenging financial situation.

Newcastle United are already making plans ahead of the January transfer window to strengthen their squad. Eddie Howe understands the need to bring reinforcements to fortify a top-four charge, which now looks probable. The Magpies’ manager is keen on bringing in a few players that would improve their chances.

In the two windows that Howe has been in charge of with the backing of the wealthy owners, Newcastle United have spent wisely than splashing the cash. The Newcastle manager has remained cautious over the incoming players, with every signing proving worth the money and effort.

The club will enter January with a sizeable budget, but again, Howe will want players that improve the team than bring in reputational value. Newcastle United want a statement signing in the next window and may be open to spending huge sums to achieve their desired player.

One of the positions in Howe’s ideas would be the left-back role. Dan Burn has played there this season, with Matt Targett being his backup. The trust in the former Aston Villa defender seems low, and Howe may seek another option in January.

Yannick Carrasco’s name has emerged on their shortlist, with Atletico Madrid reportedly considering a sale to ease their financial situation. The Colchoneros are reportedly open to offers for the Belgian wide-man, who has a €60 million release clause, with Tottenham also interested in the Belgian.

Newcastle United may not ponder paying such a high price for a 29-year-old with 18 months left on his contract. Hence, the Magpies could open negotiations with an offer much lower than Carrasco’s current €60 million valuation.

The big question here is what position the Magpies consider Carrasco for. They are indeed looking for a left-back as well as a new winger. The €60 million-rated wide-man has played as a wing-back for most parts under Diego Simeone but could feature as a winger for his national side or any other club.

Carrasco could also take up the left-back position, although the Magpies seem strong in the area. He could be a valuable signing for the short term and help Newcastle in the top-four chase.
