Everton in talks to sign Luke Shaw

Everton have expressed their interest in Luke Shaw and might make an attempt to snatch the Manchester United defender.

As per Football Transfers, Everton have held discussions with Luke Shaw over a potential transfer in the summer. The Toffees are revisiting their interest in January as the Manchester United defender is in the last year of his existing contract.

A plethora of Manchester United players have entered the last six months of their current deal. But almost all of them have a one-year extension clause in their contracts, although the final decision lies with Erik ten Hag. Recent reports have claimed that they are hopeful of agreeing renewals with Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot.

Shaw has somewhat managed to push Tyrell Malacia down the pecking order, with the former Southampton defender looking more positive. And he has been mostly the preferred choice in the last few games.

But that won’t guarantee Shaw fresh new terms as the Manchester United hierarchy is aware of his persistent injury problems which has had affected the Red Devils’ season a number of times in the past few occasions.

Shaw has stayed fit this season, and a string of impressive performances might be enough to convince Gareth Southgate to name him in the England World Cup squad. With Ben Chilwell out with injury, the England head coach does not have many options at his disposal, and the 27-year-old could be on his way to Qatar later this month.

Frank Lampard has mostly used Vitaliy Mykolenko on the left side of the Everton defence. Meanwhile, Ruben Vinagre arrived on loan from Sporting CP, but he has not managed to impress the former Chelsea manager.

Lampard is familiar with Shaw’s gameplay and could try to grab the player from Manchester United’s grasp. The English defender would want to continue his stint in the top flight, having known ten Hag’s desire of overhauling the squad next summer.

He might not be a part of the Manchester United manager’s plans as Malacia is destined to be his future number-one contender for the left-back position. A cut-price deal could be agreed upon in January, but that would leave Manchester United very short-stocked in that department.

The Red Devils could extend the one-year option, but the Toffees will try to be on his hills in an attempt to lure him to Goodison Park. It will be interesting to see if Everton approach Manchester United with a formal bid anytime soon
