Barcelona prioritising summer move for Diogo Dalot

Diogo Dalot remains a priority target for Barcelona, and the  Catalan giants want the right-back to be a part of their contingent.

As per Spanish publication SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Barcelona are still very keen to reach a deal for Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot. The Portuguese international has established himself as the first-choice right-back under Erik ten Hag this season.

The youngster has been involved in every match in the Premier League and UEFA Europa League so far. And losing Dalot will not send a very good message to the Manchester United supporters, who have been expecting a major turnaround this season.

In a very short time, Dalot has made his mark to rank amongst the most attacking full-backs of the English top-flight, and he continues to churn out top performances.

His display against Newcastle United once again highlighted why Erik ten Hag opted to rely on the player despite Aaron Wan-Bissaka showing more consistency than him over the last couple of seasons.

Dalot’s ability to attack the opponent’s final third with precision has been a key catalyst in his game, and his incisive crossing has added an extra element to his prowess.

Barcelona had quite a fruitful summer, bringing in the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. But the performances of some of the players have not been up to the mark so far. There is a good chance that the Blaugrana might get demoted to the Europa League, while their crushing defeat in the El Clasico pointed out the need for some more fresh faces at Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants have targeted a specific kind of player, and Dalot’s current contractual situation might be the perfect bet for them. His contract is up for expiry next summer, but the Manchester United hierarchy does not want to let the player leave the club right now and is ready to exercise the one-year extension clause in his contract.

Manchester United are currently just three points adrift of the top four. And should they secure Champions League football for the next season, Dalot would more than be happy to negotiate a more long-term contract with the club.
