Crystal Palace interested in Liel Abada

Marc Guehi could be available for £40-50 million next summer.

Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in 21-year-old Celtic attacker Liel Abada.

According to Givemesport, Premier League side Crystal Palace are interested in securing a transfer for Celtic attacker Liel Abada.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Israeli clubs Hapoel Petah Tikva and Maccabi Petah Tikva before moving to the Scottish Premier League in 2019. Abada has since played a big role in Celtic taking back their crown as the biggest club in Scotland.

Abada has made 67 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 21 goals and assisting 12 more. A right-winger, the 21-year-old is a dominant force down the flank and is also versatile enough to play anywhere along the frontline.

A good finisher and creator, Abada is capable of finishing and crafting goalscoring opportunities for his teammates. His eye for a pass also helps open opponent defences, and he is a key cog in Ange Postecoglou’s side. The fact that he displaced Celtic hero James Forrest in the playing XI is a testament to his ability.

The Israeli ace is likely to cost Crystal Palace around £25 million or more, a fee that could eclipse the club-record sale of Kieran Tierney to Arsenal. Abada also shifted agents, joining forces with FSB, perhaps hinting at a new chapter in his career.

Celtic might be top dogs in Scotland, but they are sorely found wanting when it comes in Europe. Crystal Palace might lack the trophy-winning pedigree but can give Abada a bigger platform to showcase his abilities. Patrick Vieira is putting together a young side at Selhurst Park, and the 21-year-old could join a side primed to hit it big.

The likes of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Wilfried Zaha form a formidable attacking triad and on their day, can pack a punch. One area that the Eagles are found wanting is at right-wing, and signing Abada addresses that. Signing the 21-year-old will also give Palace another outlet for their strikers, all of whom have struggled to score consistently this season.

Palace were linked with the player last summer as well and will have an idea of what he brings to the table. If he continues to impress, Vieira and co. will need to act fast before other bigger clubs join the race. His current deal at Celtic Park runs until 2026, meaning the Scottish champions will have a rather strong say in negotiations.
