Jorge Mendes, has offered Cristiano Ronaldo to Napoli, with Manchester United interested in landing Victor Osimhen in the deal.

Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been offered to Napoli in a deal that could see striker Victor Osimhen head in the opposite direction before the deadline. That is according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who claims Jorge Mendes continues to push the Red Devils to let his client join Napoli, who are seemingly interested in signing the 37-year-old striker.

The Portuguese international is seemingly desperate to compete in the UEFA Champions League this season, something he would not find while staying with the Red Devils. And so, Ronaldo has been trying to find an escape route out of Manchester and Old Trafford for a little while now.

Super-agent, Jorge Mendes, has been searching for a new club for Ronaldo all summer, but it has proved difficult to find a Champions League destination for his client due to various factors. While the 37-year-old is undeniably one of the greatest players of all time, his age-profile, astronomical wages, and lack of defensive output have put off any possible suitors, despite being offered for negligible transfer costs.

So far, most of Europe’s big clubs have turned down the opportunity to sign him. The list includes Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United’s Premier League rivals, Chelsea. As per some reports, Ronaldo could make a fairytale return to Sporting CP, but that is unlikely due to wage gaps.

However, a Serie A return could be on the cards for Ronaldo. His only stint there so far has been with Juventus, from 2018 to 2021. Mendes has already spoken with Napoli about Ronaldo possibly moving there. Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti has even admitted he ‘would love’ to use Ronaldo in his team, but a part-swap deal including Osimhen is highly unlikely.

The Red Devils are prepared to let Ronaldo leave, but they need a replacement before the transfer window closes and have been tipped to include Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as part of a swap deal. It is understood that Napoli were interested in Ronaldo when it appeared that he was available this summer thanks to serious interest from club president Aurelio De Laurentiis. However, the Serie A giants recognise the massive financial cost of signing Ronaldo.

While the Partenopei are open to selling their star striker, they are likely to demand a fee in excess of €100 million. And with Manchester United already in discussions for Ajax’s Antony for a fee in the same ballpark, it is unclear whether spending another €100 million is feasible for them.

Furthermore, Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, denied the rumours on Friday and reiterated the Nigerian international’s desire to play in the Champions League. “No negotiations in progress, no swaps. Victor Osimhen is a Napoli player and wants to play the Champions League with Napoli after winning it on the pitch with pride together with the coach and his teammates,” said Calenda.

Ronaldo was recently left out of Manchester United’s starting XI against Southampton, and while his transfer situation remains uncertain, things could heat up in the final few panic days of the summer transfer window.
