Harry Winks is reportedly set to leave Tottenham and sign a loan deal with Serie A club Sampdoria in the coming days.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Harry Winks is on the verge of leaving Tottenham and could begin a new adventure in Serie A. The English midfielder is set to depart on loan to Sampdoria, as he remains out of Antonio Conte’s plans.

Once a stalwart under Mauricio Pochettino, Harry Winks is reduced to being an unwanted player under the new management. The English midfielder was left out of Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Korea and has since been on the lookout for a new challenge.

Tottenham have found solutions in the window to solve their midfield problems as Conte brought in two different players in as many windows since taking charge. Rodrigo Bentancur arrived in January, and Yves Bissouma joined from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer, which has rendered Winks, among other stars, irrelevant.

Conte wants to move on many players from the old regimes, and Winks is chief among those. The midfielder had interest from Premier League sides, although Tottenham preferred sending him out to teams abroad.

Serie A clubs have admired him for some time, with Sampdoria leading the chase for the midfielder. While many may consider joining the Serie A outfit as a step down for Winks, the English midfielder is keen on playing regularly to revive his career in the Premier League.

At Tottenham, he was expected to sit on the bench for most games after falling down the pecking order. A move to Sampdoria will help him get regular game time and probably resurrect his career as a top-level professional.

Winks is set to join Sampdoria in a loan deal after the Italian outfit agreed on the details with Tottenham. The move is expected to conclude in the coming days, and the midfielder could fly out to Italy and complete his medical, among other formalities.

Whether the move to Sampdoria is good for Winks from a footballing perspective will have to be seen. For now, he will be keen on playing regular football and Tottenham will be satisfied with the incoming and outgoing aspects of their transfer business.
