Everton in advanced talks to sign Neal Maupay

Everton are reportedly closing in on signing Brighton and Hove Albion attacker Neal Maupay.

According to Sky Sports, Premier League club Everton are set to raid fellow top-flight side Brighton and Hove Albion for French striker Neal Maupay.

Frank Lampard’s side have picked up just one point from three games in the league this season. The Toffees lost Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur and could also see Anthony Gordon move to Chelsea. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling with injuries and a loss of form, Everton are in a tight spot.

Bringing in a striker is essential, and the Merseysiders appear to be doing just that. Lampard more or less confirmed that the club will bring in a striker. The player in question appears to be Maupay, who has now completed the second part of his medical at Goodison Park.

The 26-year-old is set to pen a deal that will keep him at Everton until 2025. A proven player in the top flight, Maupay has made it a habit of scoring important goals in the Premier League. A fighter who is not daunted by opposition tactics and will add impetus to an Everton side that could once again be embroiled in a relegation dogfight.

The recent development is bad news for Fulham, who were keen on signing the player. However, Everton have now swooped in and are close to signing their man. The Toffees are keen for the transfer to be registered in time for Maupay to face Brentford this weekend.

Danny Welbeck has been Brighton’s first-choice striker this season, and Maupay is better off seeking a new challenge. While a move to Everton is, at this moment in time, a step down, it could help him garner regular playtime. As things stand, Everton are now set to sign Maupay imminently. Unless there are any last-minute hiccups, the Frenchman will be unveiled as a Toffee soon.

Everton are also interested in bringing in Ben Brereton Diaz from Blackburn Rovers. Adding him to the roster will give Everton potentially two young strikers with enough reasons to prove themselves. It could prove to be the impetus for the Toffees’ new-look attack.
