West Ham United have reportedly tabled an offer worth €12 million to sign Jakub Kiwior from Serie A side Spezia this summer.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, West Ham United are interested in signing Polish centre-back Jakub Kiwior from Spezia this summer and have submitted a bid of €12 million offer for the defender.

Kiwior came through the ranks at Polish club GSK Tychy and spent time in the RSC Anderlecht youth system before moving to Slovakian outfit Podbrezova in January 2019. Six months later, he signed for MSK Zilina, where he spent two years and made over 60 appearances. Spezia signed the 22-year-old defender last summer, where he has continued his growth.

In his debut season for the Italian outfit, Kiwior made 23 appearances in all competitions and gave a solid account of himself, earning a breakthrough into the Poland national team in June earlier this year. He has featured once for Spezia this season in their first game of the campaign in Coppa Italia against Como.

Kiwior’s potential has seemingly alerted West Ham United, who have now shown a concrete interest in signing him by tabling an offer. The Hammers are on the lookout for a new centre-half before the transfer window as they have been hit with injuries in the defensive department early in the season.

Indeed, new signing Nayef Aguerd has picked up an injury and is sidelined along with Craig Dawson, while veteran defender Angelo Ogbonna is yet to recover fully from his serious knee injury. It has left David Moyes with just Kurt Zouma as his frontline defensive option, considering that Issa Diop is on his way out.

The situation has prompted a scramble for a new centre-back, with West Ham assessing several possible options. A bid has been made for Paris Saint-Germain centre-half Thilo Kehrer, but they are keeping their eyes out on other alternatives as well, with Kiwior one such target for the east London club.

David Moyes’ side have made an offer of around €12 million for Kiwior, which Spezia are contemplating whether to accept or not. However, as per the report, the 22-year-old defender would continue at Spezia rather than move to West Ham United as he wishes to play regularly and earn a spot in Poland’s squad for the World Cup later this year.

So, despite making an offer, West Ham United might miss out on signing Kiwior and may have to explore other alternatives, with Manchester United’s Eric Bailly also on their radar.
