Giovani Lo Celso set to complete Villarreal loan switch

Aston Villa have ended their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur star Giovani Lo Celso.

Giovani Lo Celso is in Spain to complete a return to Villarreal, although a final decision from the player is pending after the revelations of contract details.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Giovani Lo Celso is already in Spain to re-sign for Villarreal, as Spurs are willing to sanction a loan move for the Argentine. A final decision from the player side is yet to be made after details of the contract offer were revealed.

Giovani Lo Celso has been patiently waiting to find a solution regarding his future, and things look bright for the Argentine playmaker. The Tottenham midfielder does not feature in Antonio Conte’s plan, which was clear after the Italian tactician left him out of the pre-season tour of Korea.

In January, the Tottenham boss had made it clear that the midfielder did not feature in his plans, and Lo Celso subsequently joined Villarreal on loan in January. He did help the club into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, and since then, Unai Emery has been keen on bringing him back.

The Spanish club are on the verge of completing another loan move for the midfielder, with Lo Celso already in Spain to complete the move back to La Liga. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Argentine playmaker is yet to make a final decision on the deal after the journalist revealed the contract proposal.

Having agreed on personal terms with Villarreal, the deal may not seem straightforward owing to Tottenham’s conditions on the contract. Spurs have not included a buy option and have inserted a break clause allowing them to sell Lo Celso in January.

There was late interest from Lazio, which may have left Spurs double thinking the loan move to La Liga club Villarreal. The clauses certainly indicate Tottenham are anticipating permanent offers for Lo Celso in January, which could allow them to recoup a significant amount they had invested in the midfielder.

As things stand, he is likely to complete a move to Villarreal on loan and could be playing under Emery for at least until January. Whether Lo Celso accepts the conditions remains to be seen, but overall the player does seem keen to move back to La Liga for the upcoming season.
