Everton are reportedly interested in making a summer move for Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres.

According to Alan Myers, Merseyside club Everton are keeping a close watch on Coventry City marksman Viktor Gyokeres over a possible move in the summer transfer window.

Frank Lampard’s side escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last season and will have a real fight on his hands to avoid a deja vu this time around. The loss of Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to his latest injury leaves the Everton boss with a lack of cutting edge upfront.

So it is imperative that Everton land a striker this summer, and with just weeks left in the summer transfer window, they appear to be exploring just that in Viktor Gyokeres. The 24-year-old Swedish international is primarily a centre-forward but can play anywhere along the frontline.

He arrived on English shores by joining Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018 but largely spent his time out on loan. Gyokeres eventually moved to Coventry City last summer and immediately developed into a dependable goalscorer at the CBS Arena.

This has brought him to the attention of Everton. The Toffees are, however, yet to make a bid and are also keeping an eye out on other alternatives, with Daniel Jebbison also on their radar. It would be bold on their part should they choose to land Gyokeres. The Swede is far from a proven talent at the top level, and making the step up from English football’s second tier is no mean feat.

A good dribbler who can get the ball out of some tight situations, Gyokeres can function as the focal point of Lampard’s attack this season. The 24-year-old can also strike the football sweetly and will provide Everton with a goalscoring threat from distance. The Merseysiders have often lacked this decisive decision-making in front of goal and could do with a player with such traits.

Good on the counter, Gyokeres does, at times, struggle to hold the ball up. He does thrive in a front three and could link up well with the likes of Anthony Gordon, Alex Iwobi and Salomon Rondon.

Gyokeres got his 2022/23 campaign off to a bright start by scoring a screamer in the Sky Blues’ opener against Sunderland and looks set for yet another prolific season. Whether he will go about doing so in the blue of Coventry or the darker shade of Everton is the question. Meanwhile, other strikers, including Sasa Kalajdzic, remain on their radar.
