Real Madrid have reportedly been offered an opportunity to secure the signing of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic by intermediaries.
According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have been offered the services of Lazio and Serbia midfield mainstay Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is keen on leaving the Italian outfit this summer.
Milinkovic-Savic has been with Lazio since 2015 when he arrived from Belgian outfit KRC Genk. The 27-year-old has evolved into one of the top midfielders in Serie A over the years, standing out for his powerful displays and goalscoring ability. To date, the Serb has made 294 appearances for the Italian capital club, scoring 58 and assisting 51 goals.
However, with two years left on his current contract, Milinkovic-Savic is now keen on leaving Lazio in the ongoing transfer window. The midfield powerhouse has been linked with who’s who of European football over the years, but a move away never materialised due to Lazio’s prohibitive price tag. But that could change this summer due to his contract situation and desire to leave.
And, as per the aforementioned report, Milinkovic-Savic has been offered to Real Madrid by Italian intermediaries as he seeks a dream move to the Santiago Bernabeu. The 27-year-old has been on the radars of the reigning Spanish and European champions for years now, with Lazio even quoting them a fee of €150 million for the midfielder in the past.
The excessive transfer fee demands had meant that Real Madrid never acted on their interest in Milinkovic-Savic. However, the Serbian international has now been offered to the Merengues by intermediaries, and he could be available for just €50 million this summer as he wants to leave Lazio, while the Serie A outfit are desperate to generate funds.
Real Madrid, however, might not take up the offer to sign the 27-year-old superstar as they have already strengthened their midfield unit this summer with the addition of Aurelien Tchouameni. The Frenchman arrived from AS Monaco in a deal worth upwards of €80 million. On top of that, Dani Ceballos looks likely to stay put, meaning Real Madrid have an overload of options in midfield.
While they would need to bring in a long-term replacement for Luka Modric, Real Madrid plan to do it next summer and have their sights set on a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham for the role. So, Milinkovic-Savic is unlikely to make his way to the Bernabeu in the ongoing transfer window.
However, the Serbian ace could still leave Lazio before the window closes, as Manchester United are contemplating an offer of €68 million to sign him up after their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong went nowhere.
