Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with 27-year-old Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot over a move this summer.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have approached Adrien Rabiot’s entourage over a possible summer move from Juventus. The 27-year-old French international has just a year remaining on his contract with the Serie A giants, who are eager to offload him in the ongoing transfer window.
Manchester United have so far failed to sign their top summer target, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder is yet to agree on personal terms with the Red Devils, and with Chelsea in the mix as well, the transfer saga is fairly complicated even though the Blaugrana are ready to sell.
Manchester United’s deficiencies in the midfield unit were laid bare in the 2-1 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in their Premier League opener on Sunday. While there were claims that the Premier League heavyweights have had a long-standing interest in Rabiot, their move for the Juventus midfielder seems to be made in haste.
Rabiot has not done anything of note since his early days with Paris Saint-Germain, and there are question marks over his ability to facilitate progressive play from the middle of the park. The 27-year-old joined Juventus from PSG in a free transfer in 2019 and has since made 129 appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring and assisting six goals apiece.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has personally contacted the French international over a summer move. Some reports claim that a £15 million fee with £5 million in add-ons has been agreed between the two clubs, and it is now up to the Red Devils to agree on personal terms with Rabiot’s entourage.
The 27-year-old is represented by his mother, Veronique Rabiot, who is known as a tough person to negotiate with in footballing circles. However, despite the widespread disappointment in the Manchester United fanbase, the club seem to be seriously considering signing Rabiot.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United’s move for Rabiot has any effect on their parallel pursuit of Frenkie de Jong. Widespread reports have also linked Manchester United with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who could be Old Trafford-bound soon.
