Everton are reportedly still in the hunt to sign prodigious Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison as they look to find a backup for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
According to Football League World, Everton remain keen on signing Sheffield United’s 18-year-old forward Daniel Jebbison, a player they have been keeping track of for a long time, as Frank Lampard aims to add depth in his striker department following the departure of Richarlison.
Despite being under the strict watch of Financial Fair Play and working on a tight budget, Everton have been incredibly busy in the market of late, confirming two signings this week. Unfortunately, they lost Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina to injuries in the defeat to Chelsea in their Premier League opener on Saturday, with both expected to serve significant spells on the sidelines.
However, the Toffees have acted smartly by signing Conor Coady on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers to partner summer acquisition James Tarkowski. While Everton might have shored up their backline, Lampard must look to add a new striker before the summer transfer window slams shut.
Everton have been rattled by the loss of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with the striker expected to miss action for up to six weeks, on top of the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the summer. Lampard thus had no recognised striker for the Chelsea game, with Salomon Rondon suspended. As such, there has been reported interest in Sasa Kalajdzic, but another option re-emerging on the table is Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison.
Jebbison first burst onto the scene with Sheffield United at the end of the 2020/21 Premier League season, scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Everton. The Blades were relegated that season, with the 18-year-old making four top-flight appearances.
Soon after, the England Under-19 international became a target for Everton, who reportedly had a £5 million bid rejected for the teenage striker last summer. Now though, reports have claimed that Everton remain interested in the Sheffield United attacking sensation, who is in the final year of his deal at Bramall Lane.
Jebbison started the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Burton Albion in League One. He scored seven goals in 20 League One outings for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side before returning to his parent club, where he made a handful of first-team appearances in the Championship in the second half of last season.
Indeed, Jebbison has bags of potential, and the Everton hierarchy view the 18-year-old as a player for the future but also someone who could hit the ground running straight away owing to their current injury crisis in the centre-forward position. Big, physical, and mobile, Jebbison has similarities to Calvert-Lewin, a striker who came up the ranks at Sheffield United before joining Everton. Whether the 18-year-old prodigy follows a similar route remains to be seen.
