Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made enquiries to explore the possibility of signing AS Roma and Poland left-back Nicola Zalewski.

According to Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in raiding AS Roma for the signing of Nicola Zalewski and have made enquiries with his agent about the youngster’s availability.

Zalewski is a product of the Roma youth academy and made his first-team breakthrough in May last year under then-manager Paulo Fonseca. Since then, he has gradually grown into a first-team role at Stadio Olimpico, featuring 26 times in all competitions, with three assists to his name.

Current Roma manager Jose Mourinho rates the five-time capped Poland international very highly and used him regularly in the Giallorossi’s UEFA Europa Conference League-winning campaign last season. And, naturally, Zalewski’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Tottenham showing an interest in the 20-year-old.

Zalewski has predominantly been used as a left-sided wing-back by Mourinho so far. But the youngster possesses the capability of playing as an out-and-out winger or even as a natural left-back. During his time with Roma’s Primavera side, the 20-year-old even slotted in as an attacking midfielder now and then.

Such versatility and flexibility, coupled with his vast potential, seem to have caught the eyes of Tottenham manager Antonio Conte. The report states that the Italian tactician likes Zalewski very much and wants to bring him to north London. While Spurs have strengthened the left-wing-back department with Ivan Perisic, he is not a long-term solution.

And Zalewski could make the position his own in the next few years while he can also cover for Son Heung-min in attack if needed. To that end, Tottenham have lodged an enquiry with his agent to explore whether there is any chance of signing the 20-year-old Poland international this summer.

Apart from Tottenham, even Paris Saint-Germain are believed to have made enquiries about the youngster. However, AS Roma have no interest whatsoever in selling Zalewski at the moment. The Giallorossi tied him down to a new long-term contract until 2025 in December last year and do not plan to cash in on him anytime soon as Mourinho sees him as a vital part of his plans for the present and the future.

So, while Tottenham and PSG might be interested in Zalewski, it is unlikely that their pursuit of the youngster will yield the desired result this summer.
