Real Madrid youngster Miguel Gutierrez is reportedly close to joining newly-promoted La Liga club Girona this month.
According to MARCA, Real Madrid left-back Miguel Gutierrez is closing in on a move to La Liga side Girona after failing to break into the club’s first team. Many other Spanish outfits have shown interest in the 21-year-old as well, but Girona seem to have taken the lead in the race to sign the Real Madrid academy graduate.
Miguel Gutierrez joined Real Madrid in 2011 as an 11-year-old and rose through the ranks to make his first-team debut in the 2020/21 season. He made nine appearances in La Liga and one in the UEFA Champions League for the club’s first team, but his time at the club is seemingly approaching its end.
Real Madrid were keen on keeping hold of the youngster, who still has two years left on his contract. The Spanish club’s board were willing to give him a contract with improved wages but failed to offer him regular first-team football, which made Gutierrez take the decision of leaving the club.
Los Blancos are also now said to be ready to part ways with the Spain under-21 international, with Girona closing in on securing his signature. The newly-promoted La Liga side have put a five-year-long contract offer on Gutierrez’s table, and the Real Madrid academy graduate has been given details of the club’s ambitions and plans going forward.
50 per cent of the player’s rights will be sold to Girona, with performance-related add-ons and a buy-back clause resting with Real Madrid. The Spanish left-back is expected to complete the move shortly.
Before Girona closed in on the youngster, quit a few La Liga clubs registered their interest in him. The likes of Getafe, Real Betis, Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad were all keeping tabs on Gutierrez but could not make an official move due to financial restraints and failure to offload some of their players.
Real Madrid will hope that Gutierrez can grow into a solid player at Girona, following which they can potentially activate his buy-back clause and sign him on a permanent basis.
