Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning a new bid to convince AS Roma to sell Nicolo Zaniolo after having their first offer rejected by the Italian giants.
According to Quotidiano Nazionale, Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their efforts to sign AS Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo in a statement move this summer. Spurs are ready to push again for the 23-year-old Italian international, with a new bid expected to arrive from the north London club.
The future of Nicolo Zaniolo remains uncertain despite heading into the final weeks of the transfer window. Reports last week claimed that he was set to sign a new contract with Roma. However, that does not appear to be the case as contract negotiations for the 23-year-old Italian international have been halted until the transfer window closes.
Following the blockbuster acquisition of Paulo Dybala on a free transfer, Roma are thought to be willing to listen to bids for the Italian international and may look to move Zaniolo on this summer if they receive a tempting offer. The Giallorossi have no intention of forcing Zaniolo out of Trigoria and will only deal if their price tag is met.
Tottenham and Juventus are currently involved in a two-way battle to land the versatile winger, who still has two years remaining on his current deal with Roma. But Spurs are in the driving seat in the race for his signature. Tottenham have already had a bid for Zaniolo swiftly rejected by the Giallorossi earlier this summer after falling short of the Italian club’s valuation, according to the Quotidiano Nazionale.
But it seems they are not ready to throw in the towel just yet with the 23-year-old’s signature a priority for Antonio Conte. And with that in mind, Fabio Paratici has now made contact with the player’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, over a potential switch to Tottenham, and a new offer could soon be made by the English club, with talks ongoing with Roma.
Tottenham have already bolstered their ranks effectively in this transfer window, with no less than six first-team players arriving through the door for a combined fee of over £100 million. Zaniolo looks to be one of the players still on Conte’s wish list, with the new season on the horizon.
Although the 23-year-old is a right-winger by trade, Mourinho mostly deployed him as an attacking midfielder. And this versatility, attacking flair and exceptional ability to make things happen in the final third, could turn the young Italian international into a tremendous asset for Conte.
His injury history is a source of concern, but he seemed to have overcome those issues last term, featuring 42 times for Roma and scoring eight goals, including the winner against Feyenoord in the UEFA Europa Conference League final in May. Only time will tell whether Tottenham can get this one over the line or turn to other cheaper alternatives.
