Arthur Melo keen on joining Arsenal

Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo is reportedly keen on joining Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners set to make a formal bid imminently.

According to Italian journalist Marcello Chirico, Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of Juventus star Arthur Melo as the midfielder is keen on joining the Gunners in the ongoing transfer window.

Arthur Melo has become surplus to requirements at Juventus following the January signing of Denis Zakaria and the return of Paul Pogba on a free transfer earlier this year. Massimiliano Allegri does not see a place for the Brazilian in his squad and is ready to move him on this summer.

Arsenal, who had shown serious interest in signing Arthur in the winter window, are back in contention for the former Barcelona ace. The Gunners have made some smart signings this summer. But Mikel Arteta continues to be on the lookout for another midfielder despite the addition of Fabio Vieira and the impending arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko, who can also play in the centre of the park.

Arthur Melo and Youri Tielemans are the two players to have been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates. And Arsenal are now seemingly ready to act on their interest in the former, with recent reports suggesting that a formal offer is being prepared to be sent to Juventus.

Now, the update from Marcello Chirico reaffirms those claims while also adding that Arthur is keen on joining Arsenal this summer. The 25-year-old Brazilian has endured a difficult time in Italy since his transfer from Barcelona in the summer of 2020 in a complex deal that saw Miralem Pjanic this way.

Arthur was unable to get regular game-time in each of his two seasons in Turin, while injuries have not been kind on the former Gremio starlet either. So, a new start in new surroundings would benefit the Brazilian international as he looks to reignite his stalling career.

And Arsenal, who are already home to several Brazilian talents like Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Jesus, could be a good destination for Arthur to get his career back on track. With the midfielder keen on a transfer to the Emirates, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal can get the deal over the line or decide to move for Tielemans instead.
