Felix Uduokhai is being targeted by Manchester United, who could be looking for another central defender in the market.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, Manchester United are interested in FC Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai. Despite recently agreeing on a move for Lisandro Martinez, the Red Devils are reportedly keen on another central defender as Erik ten Hag prepares a team to challenge next season.
Manchester United endured a season to forget in 2021/22, and their defensive displays were dismal. Overall, they managed only a sixth-placed finish and qualification into the Europa League, which has left fans disappointed.
The arrival of Erik ten Hag as their new manager has brought optimism to the squad and within the fanbase. The Dutchman is known for his attacking style, as everyone is hoping for a change in fortunes for the club on the pitch.
Despite plenty of media talk, Manchester United have been slow getting off the blocks in the transfer window. They have been trailing Frenkie de Jong for a long two months, although they managed to secure Tyrell Malacia as their first summer recruit, which was followed by the signing of Christian Eriksen.
Recently they agreed on a deal for Lisandro Martinez, beating Arsenal for the Argentine international’s signature. Despite the centre-back’s imminent arrival, it seems like Manchester United are ready to sign another defender before the season begins, with FC Augsburg’s Felix Uduokhai emerging as a target.
Uduokhai could potentially be seen as a replacement for Eric Bailly, who could depart the club, with plenty of suitors for the former Villarreal star. Should the Ivorian leaves, Manchester United will still have Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, in addition to Martinez, as their primary central defenders. But Maguire and Lindelof’s performances over the past hear have been concerning.
So, ten Hag might look to add another defender to his ranks, with Uduokhai emerging as a target. The 24-year-old did not have the best season at Augsburg last time out, making only 13 Bundesliga appearances due to injury issues. However, there are no questions about his quality, as the interest from Manchester United suggests.
It remains to be seen how much Augsburg might demand for Uduokhai with two years left on his deal. The German defender could fit in with ten Hag’s ideas at Old Trafford, although from how things look, the German would be fourth or fifth choice centre-back at best entering into the new campaign.
