Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on RB Leipzig forward Brian Brobbey, who is also a target for Ajax.
Manchester United’s new coach Erik ten Hag could go head to head against his former club Ajax in the race to sign Brian Brobbey, as per BILD. The German news outlet suggests Manchester United have become the latest club to join the pursuit of the RB Leipzig forward, who is ready to leave the Bundesliga club in the summer, with Leipzig demanding €15 million for him.
Brobbey has been primarily linked with a return to Ajax this summer. However, it appears ten Hag has taken note of his situation and wants to lure him to Old Trafford as he desperately looks for attacking reinforcements in the midst of speculation revolving around Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United future.
The Portuguese international has handed in a transfer request at Old Trafford, with Manchester United reportedly open to offers for the attacker. Ronaldo’s exit could create a massive void in the club’s goalscoring unit, especially considering the fact that Edinson Cavani has also left the club while Anthony Martial is likely to be offloaded in the summer.
The Red Devils have identified multiple options in an attempt to replace Ronaldo in the coming season. Their list of targets include Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick as well as former Eintracht Frankfurt hitman Andre Silva. Manchester United have been keeping tabs on Victor Osimhen as well.
However, it seems Erik ten Hag wants players he can trust as he looks to build a mega project at Old Trafford. As such, the Manchester United manager is targeting a move to Brian Brobbey, who worked under him during their time together at Ajax and has shown immense potential during these early stages of his career.
Despite joining Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig in 2021, Brobbey rejoined Ajax in January on a short-term loan deal. He did not disappoint either, racking up seven goals in 11 Eredivisie matches. Ten Hag believes the youngster, using his pace and physical prowess can replicate his performances in the Premier League.
Although the 20-year-old might not offer much experience at the highest level of football, he does provide an excellent mix of power and space, almost in the same manner as Erling Haaland. The two are not on the same level yet, but Brobbey certainly has what it takes to become a success in the Premier League and given his situation at Leipzig and his €15 million price tag, thus making him a potential bargain for Manchester United.
