Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with Youri Tielemans, who is prepared to join the Gunners ahead of the new season.
Football journalist Ben Jacobs has offered an update on the future of Youri Tielemans. It appears the Leicester City midfielder has reached agreement with Arsenal over personal terms. He is ready to join the Londoners if they are able to reach an agreement with Leicester City over the transfer fee.
But Jacobs suggests Arsenal are yet to even launch an official bid for Tielemans. They have a long way to go before they can finalise a deal for the Belgian international, who is seeking pastures new after a successful spell at the King Power Stadium.
Tielemans had initially joined Leicester City in early 2019. During his three-and-a-half-year spell at the club, he has racked up 158 competitive appearances. His performances in the middle of the park have been critical in helping the Foxes establish themselves as contenders for the UEFA Champions League berths.
Tielemans himself has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. As such, he has now become a target for several clubs across England, with Arsenal among the teams determined to snap him up ahead of the new season.
The Gunners have already roped in Fabio Vieira from FC Porto this summer. But it appears Mikel Arteta is keen on further reinforcing his options in the middle of the park, as he looks to build a team capable of competing for the top four places and doing well in the UEFA Europa League.
Arsenal’s agreement with Tielemans spells bad news for Tottenham, though. The Lilywhites are among the clubs keeping tabs on the Leicester City star. But having already roped in Yves Bissouma from Brighton, it appears unlikely they would want to spend a fortune on another midfielder.
Another potential suitor for the Belgian international are Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have made headlines with their capture of Aurelien Tchouameni. But with Arsenal agreeing personal terms with Tielemans, Real Madrid have ground to cover if they are to secure the services of the Leicester City starlet ahead of the new season.

Ben Jacobs suggests Manchester United are involved in the equation as well. Their new coach Erik ten Hag is well aware of the midfielder’s qualities and the experience he offers to the table. It will be interesting to see if he emerges as the transfer priority for the Red Devils, in case the club’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong falls through this summer.
