Manchester United are reportedly set to beat Lyon to the signing of Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia in a €15 million deal.
According to ESPN, Manchester United are trying to hijack Lyon’s move for Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia. The Red Devils were recently out of the race to sign the Dutch defender but have now reportedly reached full agreement with Feyenoord over a €15 million deal.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the transfer fee agreed between the two clubs is €15 million plus €2 million in add-ons. Lyon had also offered €15 million for the 22-year-old, and Feyenoord had accepted their offer as well, but Manchester United have acted fast to become the favourites to secure his services.
The ball is now in Malacia’s court, with the decision now left to the player. The Dutch full-back reportedly has the same agents as Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who is also reportedly closing in on completing a move to Old Trafford, with discussions between Barcelona and Manchester United now in an advanced stage.
Feyenoord director Frank Arnesen has confirmed to 1908.nl that they have agreed on a deal with Manchester United for Malacia. They are now waiting for the Dutch international’s decision before finalising the €15 million deal.

“The agreement with Man United is there. We are now waiting for Tyrell. If Malacia says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent,” Arnesen told 1908.nl.
Erik ten Hag had requested the Manchester United board to pursue the Dutch defender, having watched him play for Feyenoord up close in the Eredivisie. The Premier League heavyweights were almost out of contention in the race to sign the player, but a last-minute effort has now changed things considerably.
At Old Trafford, Malacia will have to beat competition from Luke Shaw and Alex Telles to cement a starting spot if he completes a €15 million move. But the duo’s struggles last season could be good news for the 22-year-old.
The Dutch defender is not the only current or former Eredivisie player to be linked with a move to Old Trafford. Frenkie de Jong, who played under ten Hag at Ajax, could be the first player to join Manchester United under the Dutch tactician. Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez and winger Antony are both reportedly on Manchester United’s wishlist.
