Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is set for a homecoming – this time in Turin, as he signs a deal with Juventus.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Paul Pogba is on the verge of a return to Juventus after running down his contract at Manchester United. The midfielder has reached an agreement with the Italian giants and the deal could be officiated by the end of next month.
Pogba’s return to Juventus could be officiated exactly a month after the midfielder announced his decision to run down his contract at Old Trafford. He spent six years playing for the Premier League giants, during which he made over 200 competitive appearances.
The Frenchman, though, was largely branded as a failure as he struggled to live up to his price tag of around €100 million. He never really managed to find the right identity at Old Trafford, both tactically and culturally, while injuries weren’t kind to him either.
Pogba’s role in the Manchester United first-team dwindled further after the arrival of Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese international soon became the main creative midfielder for the Red Devils, leading Pogba to once again lose his identity in the team.
However, after six difficult years at Old Trafford, the French international is prepared to revive his career by returning to Juventus. He initially played for the Bianconeri between 2012 to 2016, featuring in 177 competitive matches and establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in world football.
Pogba’s likely arrival in Turin comes in the midst of rumours swirling around the future of Adrien Rabiot. The former PSG starlet has been deemed surplus to the requirements, with Juventus reportedly offering him to Arsenal in a swap deal involving Hector Bellerin.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have started their plans to replace Pogba in the transfer market. Their new coach Erik ten Hag is particularly keen on roping in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who had played under the former Ajax coach during their time together in Amsterdam.
De Jong could be an excellent investment for Manchester United, although the transfer saga could drag on due to Barcelona’s hefty demands. Manchester United are keeping their options open, in case the deal falls through. Curiously, they are among the clubs keeping tabs on Juventus’ Rabiot, although ten Hag is likely to prefer a player with a higher degree of quality and potential.
