Marseille have made a loan offer to Arsenal for Nuno Tavares, including an option to buy, although the Gunners are yet to respond.
According to Foot Mercato, Olympique Marseille are keen on Nuno Tavares and want to bring the Portuguese full-back on a loan deal. The French giants have reportedly proposed an offer to Arsenal, including a buy option at the end of the tenure, but the Gunners are yet to respond.
Nuno Tavares had a mixed first season on English soil, which included some memorable moments. However, there were periods he would like to forget, and some of his errors may cost the youngster a place in Mikel Arteta’s first team next campaign. For a 22-year-old lacking top-level experience, it was always going to be a testing first season in the Premier League.
Tavares made 27 appearances across all competitions, helping the Gunners finish fifth in the table. Earlier, there were no indications from Arsenal on their intention to allow the defender to leave the Emirates. However, the feeling recently suggests otherwise, with the left-back attracting plenty of attention from abroad.
The Portuguese full-back has many attributes that suit Arteta’s style, but his deficiencies remain a risky element of his game that could cost the Gunners valuable points. Hence, the club are at a crossroads with a decision on his immediate future, and a loan move could make sense.

Amid Atalanta’s recent interest in the left-back, Arsenal reportedly slapped a €40 million price tag on Tavares. Marseille are the latest club showing an interest in Tavares, with the French giants reportedly making a loan offer to Arsenal. Jorge Sampaoli’s side have included a buy-option, to which the Gunners are yet to respond.
The French giants recently took William Saliba on a season-long loan, which proved pivotal in the young Frenchman’s development. While they attempted to sign the centre-back permanently, Arsenal remained uninterested. Marseille are attempting a similar offer for Tavares, only this time the proposal contains a buy option.
The Gunners, however, could still be open to a dry loan, as they might feel a season of regular football will help the left-back. In addition, Arsenal are preparing a new offer for Lisandro Martinez of Ajax, and his arrival could allow the north Londoners to send Tavares on loan.
Meanwhile, Atalanta are also in the hunt and could rival Marseille if Arsenal decide to sell him permanently. However, the Gunners still consider the Portuguese ace a future regular, which could prompt them to only sanction a temporary switch for the full-back. Moving to Marseille would hugely benefit Tavares, who could return to Arsenal with more experience.
